Three Dundas pitchers combined to give up 10 hits on Sunday, but issued zero walks and struck out six to shut out Red Wing, 5-0, in a 14-inning victory.
Adam Thygesen, Ty Buck, Dave Jenson and Kyle Blahnik each registered two hits for the Aces, but the Dukes allowed just one Red Wing runner to reach third base. Adam Thygesen led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and stood 90 feet from home after a wild pitch. But two groundouts and a strikeout killed the threat, and the Aces were left with just four runners in scoring position the remainder of the game.
Charlie Ruud broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 14th with a two-RBI double. Carson Jones added two more runs with a single after Ruud scored on a passed ball.
Aaron Johnson took the loss after logging five innings in relief. Johnson gave up five earned runs on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. JT Cunningham started and finished nine innings, giving up four hits and three walks to go with three strikeouts.
Carson Jones got the win, pitching just the 14th inning for Dundas. Jones allowed one hit in his brief stint on the mound. Loren Muraca and Ruud combined for the other 13 innings, allowing 11 hits and striking out seven between them.
Elko 9, Red Wing 4
Red Wing pounded out 10 hits, but Elko jumped all over Brady Schroeder early as the Express came away with a 9-4 home victory on Friday.
Elko raced to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Nick Altaville’s three-run home run, and added single runs in the second and third.
The Aces scored twice in the top of the second on a Dave Jenson RBI double, and a Schroeder’s RBI groundout, but were able to add just two more runs – one in the fourth and one in the eighth – the rest of the way. Adam Thygesen had an RBI single, followed by another RBI double from Jenson.
In the sixth, the Express scored twice more, and then put up a pair in the eighth, including T.J. Evanson’s two-RBI double in the sixth.
Schroder took the loss, giving up six hits and six earned runs over six innings with two strikeouts and 10 walks.
Tyler Brekke threw a complete game for Elko, settling for a line of 10 hits and three earned runs with four walks and six strikeouts.
